Our brothers, the honorable members of the Israelite community
Duty dictates that we present to you annually a statement of accounts for the
"Hevra Kadisha" Association for revenues and expenditures, and a brief summary of the progress of its work in preparing
and shrouding the dead, and how the management of these affairs and related matters is organized,
to eliminate the problems that members of our community faced before the formation of this association. This is so that
every dear member of the community can understand the importance of this sacred project and express
their opinions and suggestions, which this association welcomes listening to in service of the public interest.
The goal aimed at by this association
It is known to the public the degree of distress and misery that prevailed over the afflicted of
this community as a result of preparation and shrouding, and the many problems they faced before
the formation of this association. How many poor and wretched people remained cast aside with no one to
prepare them until enough was collected for them through begging from compassionate people to bring them to
their final resting place. That situation sparked enthusiasm in the hearts of some zealous individuals to establish this
association, which took upon itself the preparation and shrouding of the dead of various classes, which are limited to
three categories, namely:
1 - The poor and homeless whom the association prepares and shrouds for free.
2 - The needy and destitute whose financial situation does not allow them to pay all the expenses of
preparing and shrouding their dead; rather, they pay whatever they are able to.
3 - The generous who pay whatever their magnanimity and zeal grant them, in excess of the cost,
to cover the expenses of categories 1 and 2 mentioned above.
Note that our association does not demand payment of any amount at the time of death, but rather leaves that until
after a period of time, when it sends its collector to receive whatever is paid to him.
Organization of the Association's Business Management
It is no secret to you the spread and extension of residential areas in the suburbs of the capital, which
have become far removed from the center of this association. This makes it difficult for the association's workers
and the family of the deceased to obtain the means to transport the necessary supplies, the body, and the mourners,
among other obstacles and problems that cause a total delay in performing the duty. Accordingly,
when the association presented this matter to the two virtuous benefactors, Khedhouri and Ezra Meir Lawee,
they donated a car for the aforementioned purpose. However, the circumstances of the war prevented the use of that
car at the time. In fact, it was sold (with the consent of its donors) for the account of the association, to be replaced
later. Indeed, the two generous benefactors, Ibrahim and Shafiq Adas, have now kindly donated
another car to the association, and it is now operating for the aforementioned task.
The association did not stop at this point, but is serious about purchasing another car to take the place of
the first car for the soul of the late Meir Lawee. While the association thanks
the virtuous benefactors, Messrs. Khedhouri and Ezra Meir Lawee, and Ibrahim and Shafiq Adas, for their
aforementioned donations, it also specifically thanks the virtuous benefactor, Mr. Eliyahu Ibrahim Tweig,
for gifting it the house located on Al-Nahr Street at Ras al-Qarya, and other benefactors who
have come forward to the association with their valuable donations.
It is not hidden from you that the aforementioned donations were the foundation for building this
vital project and the main factor for the savings achieved by this association. The association wishes
to announce to our brothers that its approach is to strive to raise the status of this important project and place it among
its peers at the level it deserves.
This association has begun implementing its goals and the aforementioned approach, and has made the house located
on Ghazi Street in the Yankija district, numbered 242/17 M, a center for managing its work. And it installed
Telephone number 3456, and a manager has been appointed to its administration, and he resides in its aforementioned center (meaning in
the aforementioned house) daily from sunrise until sunset to receive all communications
and inquiries, give instructions, prepare workers, and dispatch them to the requested shops and locations
as quickly as possible.
This association is still interested in implementing the plan it has drawn up, God willing. Such as
organizing the laborers (a hardship not to be underestimated) and building a decent, properly furnished place near
the eternal dwelling. It provides comfort to the public in their time of distress when necessary.
Our dear brothers! It is the duty of all of us, young and old, rich and poor, to appreciate this project
as it deserves and to strive with all our strength to establish it and elevate its status (let us leave it to the reader to compare the situation
of this project between the state we were in before the formation of this association and the present state).
We would not have reached this situation were it not for your assistance and the efforts of this association.
In conclusion, the association thanks all our brothers for their appreciation of this project and their assistance to it,
and it welcomes hearing any claim, objection, or guidance regarding this project, by
notifying the resident administrative manager at the association's center, Ghazi Street, Yankija District
No. 241/17 M personally or by telephone at number 3456.
