My help
H
With a good sign and with good luck and in a time of blessing and success and relief and joy and gladness and exultation and song and delight and joy and all good, Amen, so may it be His will.
May the kindness of the Lord be upon us as we have hoped for You; show us, O Lord, Your kindness and Your salvation grant us, Amen Selah. Blessed be the Lord forever, Amen and Amen. May the Lord reign forever, Amen
and Amen. Blessed be the Lord from Zion, who dwells in Jerusalem, Hallelujah. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever, and may His glory fill the whole earth, Amen and Amen.
A Maskil of David, when he was in the cave, a prayer. With my voice I cry out to the Lord; with my voice I plead to the Lord. I pour out my complaint before Him; I tell my trouble before Him. When my spirit faints within me, You know my path.
In this way I walk, they have hidden a snare for me. Look to the right and see, there is no one who recognizes me; refuge is lost to me, no one cares for my soul. I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.
To You, O Lord, belongs righteousness, and to us shame of face, as at this day, to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel, those near and those far, in all the lands where You have driven them
there, because of the treachery they committed against You. O Lord our God, to You belong mercy and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against You and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His laws which He set before us
by the hand of His servants the prophets. And all Israel have transgressed Your law and turned away, not listening to Your voice; so the curse and the oath written in the law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, for we have sinned against Him.
And He has confirmed His word which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, to bring upon us a great evil, such as has not been done under the whole heaven as has been done in Jerusalem.
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come upon us, yet we have not entreated the face of the Lord our God to turn from our iniquities and to gain insight in Your truth. So the Lord watched over the evil and brought it upon us,
for the Lord our God is righteous in all His deeds which He has done, and we have not listened to His voice. And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and made a name for Yourself as at this day, we have sinned, we have acted wickedly.
And he said in Joshua at the time he was giving them the land as an inheritance:
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your offspring I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: the Kenite, the Kenizzite, the Kadmonite,
the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Rephaim, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Girgashite, and the Jebusite. And the Lord said to Abram, Know for certain that your offspring will be strangers in a land not theirs,
and they will be enslaved and afflicted for four hundred years. But I will also judge the nation they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.
And the fourth generation shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete. And it happened as the sun went down and it was dark, behold, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.
On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:
These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai. On that day the Torah was given to Israel, and on that day the Torah was given to Israel, and on that day the Torah was given to Israel.
⟦...⟧ Amen, so may it be His will. Blessed be the Lord forever, Amen and Amen. May the Lord reign forever, Amen and Amen.
I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living. Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my pursuers, for they are too strong for me. Bring my soul out of prison, to give thanks to Your name; the righteous will surround me, for You will deal bountifully with me.
A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, watchmen for the morning. Let Israel hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is plentiful redemption. And He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song. May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us, Selah, that Your way may be known on earth, Your saving power among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for You judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah. Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You! The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear Him!
May it be the will before You, O Lord our God and God of our fathers, that You act for the sake of Your great mercies and for the sake of the merit of our holy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the righteous and the pious,
that in their merit You will have mercy on us and on all Israel our brothers, and have pity and compassion on us and save us with an everlasting salvation, Amen, so may it be His will.
And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin; Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls; and Joseph was in Egypt. And Joseph died, and all his brothers, and all that generation. And the children of Israel were fruitful and swarmed and multiplied and became very, very mighty,
and the land was filled with them. And there arose a new king over Egypt who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and mightier than we. Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply,
and it happen that if war breaks out, they also join our enemies and fight against us and go up from the land. So they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens, and they built store cities for Pharaoh.

Parashat Beshalach
And God led the people around by the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt ⟦illegible⟧
Parashat: 'And armed' - meaning equipped with weapons of war ⟦illegible⟧
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for he had strictly sworn the children of Israel, saying: 'God will surely remember
you; and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you.' And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night.
He took not away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying: 'Speak unto the children of Israel,
that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon; over against it shall you encamp by the sea. And Pharaoh will say
of the children of Israel: They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in. And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he shall follow after them; and I will get Me honour
upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord.' And they did so. And it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled;
and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned towards the people,
and they said: 'What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?' And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him; and he took six
hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them.
And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt,
and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. And the Egyptians pursued after them, and overtook them encamping by the sea,
all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, by Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon. And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up
their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were sore afraid; and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord.
And they said unto Moses: 'Is it because there were no graves in Egypt
that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying:
Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.' And Moses said unto the people: 'Fear not,
stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today; for whereas you have seen the Egyptians today, you shall see them again
no more for ever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.'
And the Lord said unto Moses: 'Wherefore do you cry unto Me? Speak unto the children of Israel,
that they go forward. And lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. And I, behold,
I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord,
when I have gotten Me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.' And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar
of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them; and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by
night; and the one came not near the other all the night. And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all
the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Parashat Bamidbar
Which he spoke in peace in four
On the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying: Take a census of
all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head; from twenty
years old and upward, all who are able to go to war in Israel, you and Aaron shall number them by their armies. And with you there shall be a man
from every tribe, each one the head of his father's house. And these are the names of the men who shall stand with you: for Reuben, Elizur
the son of Shedeur; for Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; for Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab; for Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar; for Zebulun,
Eliab the son of Helon; for the children of Joseph: for Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; for Benjamin, Abidan the son of
Gideoni; for Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; for Asher, Pagiel the son of Ochran; for Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel; for Naphtali, Ahira the son of
Enan. These were the chosen of the congregation, the leaders of the tribes of their fathers, heads of the thousands of Israel. And Moses and Aaron took
these men who were mentioned by name, and they assembled all the congregation on the first day of the second month, and they declared their lineage by
their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, head by head. As the Lord commanded Moses,
so he numbered them in the Wilderness of Sinai. And the children of Reuben, Israel's firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names,
head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war; those who were numbered of the tribe of Reuben were forty-six
thousand and five hundred.

Parashat Vayechi
"And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt..." (Gen 47:28) etc.
Our Sages of blessed memory, peace be upon them, said: Why is this portion closed? Because at that hour the eyes and hearts of Israel were closed from the distress of the enslavement,
as it is written in Bereishit Rabbah. And it is necessary to understand: just because the eyes and hearts of Israel were closed, should the portion be closed? Rather, what
our Sages of blessed memory meant by the above was to teach us that the Torah is set in everything and preserved, and all the events that happened to Israel are all
hinted at within it. And since at that hour the eyes and hearts of Israel were closed, therefore the portion was closed so that there would be a hint
to the matter. And this is what the scripture says: "And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were seven years
and forty and a hundred years." And our Sages of blessed memory expounded that all the days of Jacob were 147 years, and all the days of Joseph were 110 years.
It is found that there were seventy years that both lived together in the world. And this is what the scripture says: "And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years
and the days of Jacob..." etc.
"And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt"
seventeen years
the numerical value of 'Tov' (Good), and this is
what the scripture says
"And Jacob lived"
"And the time drew near for Israel to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him: If now I have found favor in your eyes..." etc.
The commentator of blessed memory wrote: Why did it call him Israel and not Jacob? Because at that hour he was elevated in his trials and merited the name Israel,
as it is written: "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." And our Sages of blessed memory expounded that whenever Jacob is in distress
he is called Jacob, and when he is in tranquility he is called Israel. And since at that hour he was in tranquility, therefore he was called Israel.
And as for what it said, "and he called his son Joseph" and did not say "his sons," it is because Joseph was a king and it was in his power to perform kindness and truth
with his father. And this is what he said to him: "If now I have found favor in your eyes, please put your hand under my thigh and deal kindly and truly with me;
please do not bury me in Egypt." And since Joseph was a king, therefore he called him alone. And this is what he said to him: "And he said to him: If now I have found
favor in your eyes..." etc. And it was when he buried him in Egypt, and it was when Joseph said to him, "I will do as you have said."
And he lived another thirty years after the death of his father. And Joseph was a hundred and ten years old. And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation;
also the children of Machir the son of Manasseh were born upon Joseph's knees. And Joseph was a hundred and ten years old, and Joseph died, etc.
And they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt. And it was after the death of Joseph, and there arose a new king over Egypt who did not know Joseph.
And he said to his people: "Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than we. Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass that if war occurs,
they also join our enemies and fight against us and go up from the land." And they set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens.
And he built store cities for Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. And they were in dread because of
the children of Israel. And the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. And they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in bricks,
and in all manner of service in the field; all their service wherein they made them serve was with rigor.
And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah. And he said: "When you do the office of a midwife
to the Hebrew women and see them upon the stools, if it be a son, then you shall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live." But the midwives feared
God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men-children alive. And the king of Egypt called
for the midwives and said to them: "Why have you done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?" And the midwives said to Pharaoh:
"Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwife come unto them." And God dealt well
with the midwives; and the people multiplied and waxed very mighty. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that He made them houses. And Pharaoh
charged all his people, saying: "Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."

Parshat Chukat
"And they shall take to you a red heifer, without blemish," etc.
Behold, it is known that the act of the red heifer, according to the secret meaning, hints at deep and lofty secrets, etc., as this is the statute of the Torah,
the secret of purifying the impure and defiling the pure, and this is a great wonder; and our Sages of blessed memory hinted at it and said: King Solomon, peace be upon him, said, "I said
I will be wise, but it is far from me," etc. And therefore it is called the statute of the Torah, a secret of a law without a reason, etc., and this is the secret of the red heifer, etc.
And it must be understood what is written, "And they shall take to you a red heifer, without blemish," etc., and why did it not say, "And they shall take for you a red heifer, without blemish," etc.
And it also says, "when there shall be a red heifer," etc., and also what is written, "without blemish, in which there is no defect," etc., and also what is written, "upon which no yoke has come."
And it must also be understood what is written, "And you shall give it to Eleazar the priest," etc., and also what is written, "And he shall take it outside the camp," etc.,
"and slaughter it before him," etc.
"And it came to pass when the Ark set forward," etc.
Behold, in this verse there are eighty-five letters, corresponding to the eighty-five portions
in the Torah, and because of this, our Sages of blessed memory made inverted 'Nuns' at its beginning and at its end to inform that this is a book in its own right.
And this is the hint in the verse, "And it came to pass when the Ark set forward, that Moses said: Rise up, O Lord, and let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You," etc. "And when it rested,
he said: Return, O Lord, unto the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel," etc. And it must be understood why these two verses were written specifically in this portion.
And also what is written, "And it came to pass when the Ark set forward, that Moses said: Rise up, O Lord, and let Your enemies be scattered," etc. Is it because the Ark moves
that His enemies will be scattered? And also what is the expression "Rise up, O Lord"? It implies as if, God forbid, He were sleeping, as it were, and one must wake Him, God forbid.
But it is implied: "He neither slumbers nor sleeps, the Guardian of Israel," etc. And also it must be understood what is written, "And when it rested, he said: Return, O Lord, to the ten thousands of the thousands
of Israel," etc. And what is the expression "Return, O Lord"? Did He, God forbid, go to another place and needs to be returned? And also what is the expression "ten thousands of thousands of Israel"?
For behold, it is known that in every generation there are ten thousands of thousands of Israel, so what is this that he wrote "ten thousands of thousands of Israel"? And also what is the expression "Return",
and what is the expression "ten thousands of thousands of Israel," etc.? And these two verses must be understood, why they were written here, etc.
in our portion in this place, when the entire portion is a different matter, etc.

For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, from the destructive pestilence.
With His pinions He will cover you, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and a buckler. You shall not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the recompense of the wicked. For You, O Lord, are my refuge; you have made the Most High your dwelling place. No
evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your tent. For He will give His angels charge over you, to guard you in all your ways. Upon their hands they shall bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. Upon the lion
and the asp you shall tread; you shall trample the young lion and the serpent. Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation.
