General Appeal
Regarding the subscription for the relief of the victims of the June 1-2, 1941 incident
My sons!
I see it as one of my most particular duties to publish this appeal to the honorable public for the second time, drawing attention specifically to some
points that may have been hidden from many of those who carry a living feeling toward the sons of their homeland and their brothers in tormented humanity.
My sons! I do not see myself in need of reminding you of the great catastrophe and the heavy calamity that befell a large number of the members of our community as a result of
the unfortunate events that passed over them on last June 1st and 2nd. And now, after weeks have passed after weeks since this painful affliction,
is it not the duty of every individual among us to ask what has happened to the hundreds of families and the thousands upon thousands of our stricken brothers? Is it not our duty to
know the fate of those who were struck in their sources of livelihood and means of subsistence, and the fate of their children who are starving and have no helper
except the mercy of God, which encompasses everything in this existence?
The report presented by the specialized relief committee after studying the project and examining the situation of three thousand stricken families is something that attracts
the utmost attention and arouses sadness and pain in sensitive hearts. For the amounts collected from those of mercy and chivalry, and which it is hoped will be collected in the near
future, do not contain enough to cover the simplest needs of these miserable families or restore the wheel of their economic life to its former course, even in a
preliminary way, despite the efforts made by the specialized committees and their successive visits to those of wealth and ease. So how can we manage the living of
these miserable families and restore productive work to hundreds of shops that were a constant source for supporting these thousands of our stricken brothers?
My sons! Let each of us hold himself accountable before his conscience and soul. And let him imagine his situation if he were - God forbid - among those who were hit
