The Honorable Rabbi Sassoon Khedhouri
Greetings,
In view of the economic situation and the unbearable high cost of living in
general, and bread in particular, which makes it impossible for an employee to endure. Therefore, we request you
to increase our salaries at the slaughterhouse to a level that you deem sufficient for us and our children to survive in these
difficult circumstances. Otherwise, with much regret, we will be forced to leave work on 15/4/1948
inevitably.
We hope you appreciate our situation and grant our requests, and we thank you in advance.

Sincere greetings
I received with much gratitude your letter No. 184 dated 8 / 29 / 948 and attached with it

The Honorable President of the Israelite Community
Sir
The esteemed Lay Council had decided to appoint me as a clerk for the Presidency of the Community as of
8/15/1947 with a nominal salary of eight dinars plus a cost-of-living allowance of five dinars
and a quarter monthly. In view of my weak condition and the low amount of this salary, I submit this petition of mine, pleading for your Eminence's mediation
with the esteemed Lay Council to consider the matter of raising my salary in view of my diligence in performing my duties with all
effort and sincerity, noting that the Secretary of the Community has personally assigned me to receive the documents and correspondence of the
Property Committee as of the date of the termination of services of the previous Property Committee clerk, Mr. Youssef Aqayreb, on 9/1/48.
I repeat my plea to consider this request of mine with kindness, and the matter is yours, sir.

To the respected President of the Jewish Community
Bagh-dad .
Sir
What is presented: I am a graduate of the Iraqi College of Law for the 1946 academic year, and the
venerable Ministry of Justice appointed me since January 1948 to the position of first clerk serving the Court of Cassation
for the Jewish community with a nominal salary of 15 dinars per month, and it also appointed my colleague Mr. Munshi
Saleh, a graduate of the same college, as first clerk for the Jewish Community Court with the same salary as well.
Based on the request submitted by my colleague, the Lay Council has granted him, since his appointment,
fixed allowances of 10 dinars per month, and the venerable Ministry of Justice also raised his salary on 12/26/48
to 18 dinars per month without me receiving any of that.
Sir: I offer my deep thanks and gratitude to your Excellency for your valuable recommendation submitted to the venerable Ministry of Justice
regarding my promotion, and I will never forget your efforts exerted in this regard. It is not hidden from your Excellency
that the venerable Ministry of Justice has postponed considering the matter of my promotion - which I have been waiting for impatiently throughout
the past year - until after the ratification of the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Accordingly, I have come
with this petition of mine, beseeching your Excellency to look kindly upon my case and to mediate with the Presidency of the Lay
Council to grant me monthly allowances, the estimation of which I leave to your high kindness and the kindness of the esteemed Lay Council,
consistent with the kindness shown to my colleague, knowing that the positions we are both appointed to and their duties and responsibilities are the same.
Please accept in advance my further thanks and respect, Mr. President.
