To the honor of the excellence of the honorable ministers and the magnificent dignitaries, the Community Committee of the Jews in Baghdad, may God protect them
After inquiring of your peace and welfare as befits your high excellence. We hereby submit before your excellence this request of ours
This is to inform your excellence that we were working in the community school called by the name "Talmud Torah"
For many years already - this is twenty years and more - and all our work was in faithfulness and complete devotion for the benefit of the school
And behold now we have reached a very difficult situation because the school management decided to fire us from our work without any reason
justified and without giving us the compensation due to us according to law and fairness. And we are poor men and heads of families
and we have no other source of livelihood. Therefore we have come before your excellence with this request that you may be so good as to look
into this matter of ours and do with us charity and kindness and instruct the school management to return us to our work or to give
us the compensation due to us so that we may live our lives with dignity. And we are a prayer to God Most High that He may lengthen
your days in goodness and your years in pleasantness and may you merit to see the consolation of Zion and Jerusalem, Amen.

We have received sufficient and legal testimony by which the death of the deceased Salman M. Aaron David, who passed away in Baghdad last Friday, corresponding to September 26, 1924, and we buried him,
was proven before us in the Jewish cemeteries. We have issued for him a legal certificate of inheritance distribution under number 800 and dated September 21, 1924. His legal heirs were limited to his male children: Saleh, Naim, and David; and for the summary,
one of the aforementioned males is the aforementioned Saleh. In our capacity as judges of the Law, we rule on the validity of that and that the deceased mentioned above is the father of the aforementioned males. We have verified that and requested
from the Sublime Government to register that with them - Baghdad, September 27, 1924, corresponding to 28 Elul 5684.

On this day, Mr. Salman son of Shaul Murad appeared and is demanding from his wife Farha daughter of Eliyahu David Kuz Yosef
Sitting as three as one, we were here, and the aforementioned Mr. Salman came before us and claimed against his wife, the aforementioned Farha, that she refused to come with him to the residence he prepared for her (Beit Menachem Daniel)
And he explained to her and designated for her another house instead of the aforementioned house, and he wanted from the Court to rule against his wife that she must go to the residence he prepared for her. When we asked
the woman about this, she answered:
O judges, from among you my sufficiency is 20 March 1922, and with this, a dispute and reconciliation occurred between us more than once. 1922 today I am not able to pay my alimony, sir, due to a lawsuit between us
a dispute ⟦...⟧ so is it permissible to pay my alimony of 5 Dinars which I want to pay throughout the dispute? If there was mercy between us, it would not be permissible for him to go to the residence which
he prepared for her. After we reviewed the papers presented to us by the aforementioned Mr. Salman and Farha, we saw that the aforementioned Mr. Salman was ready to pay her alimony as long as she was with him as long as there was no dispute
and his wife ⟦...⟧ refuses to go with him. Therefore, we ruled against his wife, the aforementioned Farha, that she must go with Mr. Salman to the residence he prepared for her, and we obligated her husband to pay her alimony as long as
she is with him. As for the matter of paying the past alimony from the date of her stay in her brother's house, we saw that she is not entitled to any of that as long as her husband is present
to house her in a legal house. We have informed the aforementioned Mr. Salman to treat his wife with all affection and mercy as befits the daughters of Israel. To all that we witness, we have written and signed
11 Adar Sheni, the year 5684 of the abbreviated era
7 Nisan 924
With reference to your Excellency's letter dated 18 August 922 and number 452
The alimony estimated for the petitioner Salman son of Shaul Murad for his wife
Had been scrutinized and it was found and reduced to the current amount, which is
30/0 Rupees monthly, and there is no room today for any further reduction of
this amount, which is considered the minimum limit considering the wife's environment
and her social status. An initial alimony had been allocated to her on 20 March 1922
Rupees 75/0 monthly, and upon the husband's objection it was reduced on 20 March 1922 to 35/0 Rupees
and upon his second objection it was reduced to 30/0 Rupees, which covers house rent, living, clothing, and maintenance
while she is still complaining about the smallness of her alimony as seen from her hardship. As for the husband's claim that he has a statement from the doctor and his separation
evidence of his inability, it is not considered very much because the wife's clarification is superior in this matter, and in proof of her request pursuant to an increase
in her alimony, she has recently appealed for mercy that her husband received his inheritance share from his father, about 11,000/0 Rupees, and despite this
the consideration of her request has been postponed to another time. We have returned herewith the petitions for mercy here, and to your Excellency we offer our great respect.

Confirmed by the Honorable Individual Judge in Basra to the Honorable Representative of the Hakham Bashi residing in Baghdad
Presented to your Excellency
On the date below, I was notified of a copy of the notification issued against me by the Spiritual Council in Baghdad dated 4-2-934 under
the number expired by paying a monthly alimony of thirty rupees to Khatna Hassel Koji, starting from the date of December 17, 933
And the aforementioned was judged in my absence, and therefore I present my legal objection as follows below
A year ago, I appeared before the Israeli Spiritual Court in Baghdad and claimed to prevent my opposition, and when the
aforementioned Khatna was brought to court, she requested a grace period to bring her witnesses to testify in my presence before
the Spiritual Court. When she failed to bring witnesses after the specified period, the leave period I had officially obtained
from the Director of Health in the city had expired, and I informed the aforementioned court regarding my return to Amarah.
The said council replied that I should travel, and if she brings her witnesses before the Spiritual Council in Amarah in my presence,
two letters arrived from the Spiritual Court in Baghdad to the Spiritual Council in Amarah stating that the plaintiff Khatna must
bring her witnesses to Amarah to testify before you in the presence of Koji. She requested two extensions from them and did not
bring her witnesses at all.
In view of my previous claim in Baghdad and the letters received from the Spiritual Court in Baghdad to the Spiritual Council
in Amarah, and that it is necessary for witnesses to testify in my presence according to their legal orders,
As for bringing witnesses in my absence, testifying on the third day, this is against your objectives and contrary to the law, since
I have multiple objections to the witnesses in the face-to-face trial when proceeding before the Spiritual Council.
Therefore, based on the request to bring witnesses to testify in my presence, as it is definitely not applicable to me, she requests
bringing the aforementioned Khatna and proceeding with her face-to-face, and after verification, her claim will be proven false, and I am ready.
In the ranks of the trusted Hakham in Amarah, she claimed and in her hand a warning in her claim, as proof by the copy of the notification dated January 4, 934.
This wife, since she was not absent and her husband passed away, how is it permissible for her to marry? For this, I request the referral of
the trial, with the copy of the notification attached herewith, to the Spiritual Court for the scrutiny of my objection, and then bringing the aforementioned Khatna
and proceeding with her face-to-face according to the Mosaic Law in the presence of the Spiritual Court in Amarah according to their previous letters.
Even if I am excused, the matter is yours, my Lord, June 15, 934.

Minna daughter of Muqbil claimed that her husband Karmi son of Daoud, both of the Mosaic faith,
had left her with her daughter Libloua, who is one year old, so she requested an assessment of alimony for
my child. Her petition was referred to the Israeli Council, and the reply dated ⟦illegible⟧ was received
stating that the aforementioned Minna has no right to alimony since she was married to a husband and separated
during the time of the war, and since his death has not been verified, she may not marry another. The said Council stated
that the assessment of the daughter's alimony is within the jurisdiction of the court. After bringing both parties to the trial session,
they agreed that he would pay fifteen rupees every month as alimony. Accordingly, it has been imposed on Karmi,
with his consent, alimony for the young daughter Libloua in the amount of fifteen rupees every month from the date of the petition
on ⟦illegible⟧, and that he shall deliver the said amount into the hand of her mother Minna to receive and spend on
her daughter for food, drink, clothing, and other necessary needs. Written upon request on ⟦illegible⟧

On August 11, 1934
To the Honorable Acting Chief Rabbi of Baghdad
Greetings, and with reference to your letter No. 106 dated August 17, 1934.
It appeared to us from the report of the Adhamiyah police commissioner that while he was going to follow up on a case that occurred
outside Adhamiyah, he encountered a carriage near Sulaikh in which there was a woman named Farha bint Shaul
with a man named Arslan Daoud. He became suspicious of their condition and brought them to the station. Upon questioning
the aforementioned man, he claimed that the woman was one of his relatives and that they intended to go to Al-Fahama for the purpose of
leasing orchards there. In the end, it turned out that there was no truth to this claim. Therefore, both parties appeared
before the Adhamiyah Court and each of them was fined ten rupees in accordance with Article 126 of the ⟦...⟧ Penal Code.
Sincerely yours.
