Subject: - The new cemetery in Waziriya ⟦line⟧
Based on your verbal order, we have inspected the mentioned cemetery in order to find the necessary cost to repair the fence and make it
suitable for burial.
Most of the fence is collapsed or leaning towards collapse, and the fence actually consists of two parts: -
A - The lower part, which is built of cement, and this suffered only minor damage.
B - The upper part, with a height of 2.00 m (two meters), which is the damaged part that is collapsed or leaning towards collapse and must be repaired.
As for the costs of the proposed repairs, they are as follows: -
Quantity and Unit | Price | Amount
Demolishing the part leaning towards collapse, then cleaning the bricks and rebuilding them with the value of gypsum | Fils Dinar
2050 m length of the fence x 2.00 m height x 0.50 thickness = | 2050 m3 | 3/000 | 6150 /-
2 - Pointing the wall from both sides with cement
2050 m length x 2.00 m height x 2 sides | 8200 m2 | 0/150 | 1230 /-
3 - Placing concrete slabs on top of the wall
2050 m. length / | 2050 l.m | 0/100 | 205 /-
4 - Installing iron doors and painting them | 2 pieces | ⟦line⟧ | 100 /-
5 - General repairs such as purchasing an additional quantity of bricks (shortage) and pointing the spots | | | 315 /-
⟦line⟧ | (Eight thousand Dinars only) | | 8000 /-
As for the land, it does not need leveling as it is good, and despite the presence of a low stone trace in the middle of the cemetery, it
does not affect the cemetery at all at the present time.
As for the roads leading to the cemetery, there are three roads: -
A - From Sheikh Omar Street - to the embankment then the Al-Asima road - then to the cemetery, and this road is the shortest route and takes
one-third of an hour (20 minutes) starting from Bab Al-Sharqi. This road is frequented, meaning people go and come on it, which is an important point, but
its only drawback is passing through Al-Asima and on its sides a group of huts where there are many children who might harass the car while passing,
and the distance of this road is 5 minutes.
B - The new Al-Rayas road ( ⟦line⟧ ) and this passes through the factories and is very difficult and takes about 45 minutes from Bab Al-Sharqi and cars cannot penetrate it in winter.
C - Al-Shammaiya road, which is a long road that takes 60 minutes starting from Bab Al-Sharqi (saloon car). it is a good road in
terms of car movement, but it is not frequented, and this is a dangerous matter. If something happened to the car, it would be very difficult to contact anyone, especially
in winter days, at night, and at noon when the sun is very hot, in addition to the length of the period.
I believe that the first road is the most suitable road despite the presence of children due to its shortness, suitability for cars, and the presence of a police
station at its beginning.
The matter and opinion are yours.

Subject / Deposit of the deceased Salim Houri
Honorable President of the Jewish Community
Baghdad
Greetings and respect. It appeared to me from the attached papers that the Iraqi man named Salim
Ezra Ishaq Houri had deposited a sum of money and furniture with the administration of the Community and that he passed away
in the month of May 1957. In view of the inheritance certificate issued by the Personal Status Court in Baghdad on
July 15, 1957, number 11 / Personal / 57, his inheritance was restricted to his Iraqi cousin Sassoon Moshe
Daoud Abdul Razzaq only. It is requested to provide an opinion on whether the deposit can be handed over to the heir
mentioned above, and perhaps there is another heir in Iraq or outside of it.?
Upon studying the subject, I believe that the inheritance certificate is a document that must be acted upon unless it is annulled or modified
as a result of a lawsuit. I see no justification for refusing to accept it on the pretext that there may be an heir other than the heirs
mentioned in it. Therefore, in the event that the Community administration does not have knowledge of a lawsuit to annul the certificate
or modify it, or a warning from any person claiming inheritance, there is no objection to handing over the deposit to the heir
mentioned in the certificate against a receipt, and thus the Community administration becomes discharged of liability as long as by these procedures
it has not been an aggressor or negligent.
With my highest respect.
Sincerely,
Lawyer Sion Gigi

Honorable Mr. Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Community in Baghdad
Greetings,
1 In ⟦period⟧ Khalil about 1 year, the Properties Committee (and either Isaac waqf alone)
pertaining to him ⟦secretly⟧ from eight tenants, the waqf of ⟦Bir⟧ Al-Sayegh in my person who collected
the rents of these khans, and they mentioned ⟦to my name⟧ the trust of the tenants, one of whom is
Khalil, and I have its receipts, the receipts of ⟦these⟧, i.e., the waqf of ⟦Bir⟧ in the account where
I have receipts for the commission's funds and others that ⟦Mir⟧ noted their deficiency.
When your esteemed committee took over, it authorized the Properties Committee in the guardianship and gathered him
among the tenants ⟦secretly⟧ and not by inspection as the creditor demands from the debtor
and the reduction ⟦these⟧ from the one who collected the rents.
2 On the date of 21/7/1956, I received your letter dated 2/8/1956 informing us that the
Properties Committee informed your esteemed committee through Ali Khalil, the tenant of Khan
Al-Sayegh, that he had received 440 dinars annually for 10 years in rents from
the eight mentioned, and the tenant Ali Khalil has the collection receipts in his hands, and at
that time your esteemed committee took a decision to demand that I immediately pay the amount of the rents
mentioned.
3 I ask your esteemed committee to allow me to respond to that.
I say all the notifications that reached the Properties Committee or your esteemed committee have
no share of truth whatsoever, and that is as clear as the sun, and the tenant of the khans
4 in the house of ⟦Bir⟧ Al-Sayegh in Baghdad handed over to the hospital 54 dinars according to a receipt
at the hospital, and before that these 54 dinars were all their origin, and as for this tenant, he neither
has the payment in ⟦Kut⟧ nor can he receive it, and I say all the cases that are with me above
for a period of twenty ⟦stories⟧.
5 Are the mentioned khans, one of which is the tenant Ali Khalil and the second is Hajj Mahmoud,
and the third tenant is not present in Baghdad in the case of ⟦the keeper⟧? How did the Properties Committee
announce the annual rent amount and that it reduced 10 years' rent, and the tenant has
receipts from me at a time when the tenant is not present in Baghdad?
6 At the time when the Properties Committee reduced Ali Khalil, the Properties Committee submitted a paper to
the tenant that he refuses the 10-year rents, and likewise he has receipts, and the tenant
refused to give such a thing, and Ali Khalil made a promise with the Properties Committee.
Page 318
⟦...⟧ dated 20 September 1956, crossing out the papers and ⟦my joining⟧ to the community, I want
to know for what reason you did not face the aforementioned date before ⟦...⟧ ⟦...⟧
For what reason, at a time when a license has not passed legally, there should be no preference over the diocese
7 The Property Committee's view was not informed of the community's request on the flat rate, as I think
from it, year 10 from the date of the endowment
8 I want to know, at the time the committee learned that the flat rate yields from year 10 were in hand,
why did you not give me notice of my document secretly?
9 I insist on ⟦...⟧ ⟦...⟧ before your respected committee so that we may inform your respected committee how
this liquidation took place and whether there are yields from me, and I used to see the flat rate
before the year ⟦of⟧ Al-Sayegh in Baghdad. And is there an entry in the hospital records regarding what
I have of 45 Dinars which the flat rate delivered by the hand of Al-Sayegh's secretary to the hospital
since in the year 1941 I did not enter the community until the year 1952, and why?
10 I have work in the ⟦...⟧ ⟦...⟧ from the time of Al-Sayegh's secretary; we discussed with the community
directly and with the Rabbi, and it was decided to purchase with all ⟦...⟧ then the rents of these shops
11 I say that the Property Committee for the year ⟦...⟧ ⟦...⟧ ⟦...⟧ which has no real record
And that (I mentioned whether this endowment, you should search in the record of the property endowment, give me my right)
12 I want, after you learn the truth of the liquidation, for you to take a decision in your hand
the decision that was made, and inform us in this letter, and remain well.

The Honorable Chief Rabbi Sassoon Khadduri
Head of the Jewish Community
Baghdad
After greetings and respect
Based on your Excellency's desire to entrust the organization, improvement, and management of the late Ezra Daoud Kamaji Synagogue
as stated in your letters numbered T 2922, 2924, and 57/2941 dated 24/10,
12/11, and 15/11/957, we inform your Excellency that we have received the amount of three hundred and sixty Dinars
and four hundred and fifteen Fils only (360/415 Dinars) belonging to the aforementioned synagogue with all the assets
of Torah scrolls, carpets, and others, and we have supervised and observed the synagogue's condition from all aspects.
Thus, for our part, we have entrusted the synagogue's assets including furniture and others to the synagogue's beadle
(Benjamin Shmuel) according to a receipt (who permanently resides with his family in the aforementioned synagogue) and it is worth
mentioning, as is not hidden from your Excellency, that the mentioned synagogue was extremely neglected in several aspects and according to
our diligence, we have managed to organize it in a reasonable manner, knowing that the synagogue needs repairs
and stronger improvements. Below is a detailed statement of the expenses and improvements of the synagogue that we have carried out and what
we received in revenues, as follows:

180/670 | The mentioned amount is deposited at the British Bank (savings account) in the name of one of us, Yousef Shaul Balbouli
For the account of the aforementioned synagogue -
Note - It is noted from the above that the remaining amount is small relative to the synagogue's requirement needs
As the annual income does not cover the usual necessities of servant and sexton wages, electricity
and water, especially since the synagogue needs other necessary expenses. Repairing the benches which
some of are unusable and buying new covers as most of the existing ones are torn, the synagogue
needs an additional electric fan as well as painting the outer face of the synagogue which we hope
to begin completing these deficiencies soon. This, and recently our need, and we arranged for a number of
people to attend the morning prayer for a fee to be with the worshipers as an addition to them to establish the prayer
there permanently, and this costs no less than ⟦four⟧ six monthly. Therefore we submitted our report
this so they would be aware of the requirements and financial situation of the synagogue and in order for us to be able to
conduct the synagogue's affairs and improve them gradually to gain the satisfaction and encouragement of our brothers visiting the synagogue
to increase the turnout of worshipers there. And we hope for encouragement from your Excellency and especially from the will written in the synagogue
for Mr. Sassoon Ezra Daoud. This and finally we pray to God to protect you all as a treasure for us and may you remain under the care
of the Almighty Creator, Amen | Committee Members
